Kona Gold

Being stuck on the Kona side of the Island yesterday wasn't too bad. Due to a dead battery, our shopping run became delayed..then my computer decided to slow down..so I really couldn't visit the Monochrome Weekly posts.
Now maybe I would of missed the display (a full moon, the sun setting as well as a few rainbows. We didn't leave Kona for Hilo until the sun began to dip down below the horizon, but this was really a surprise because you may not realize Kona has been engulfed in vog (volcanic emissions) for a very long time. The view of the coastline was outstanding this week. Anyway, I''ll be posting a sunset follow up next-

Parallels To Light

First,
I Just Want To Say Thanks To All Of You
&
Hope You Have A Happy & Blessed Thanksgiving!
Hau’oli La Ho’omakika’i
(pronounced how-oh-lay la ho-o-ma-key-kah-ee)-
(Hawaiian for Happy Thanksgiving) How do you say it?
(This is just for fun..I realize many of you may not celebrate this day)There are many parallels I found with light & color too.

For instance-

God is light.

Sun emits light.

We also have receptors ( rods & cones) which enable us to receive light.

Being able to see color is a sensation, just like smelling a pie or coffee.

Light in the form of the wave consists of photons (pieces of energy or particles).

Remember, waves exist above and below the visible spectrum..

So they cannot be seen by the human eye

I saw this movie quite some time ago..well it came to mind since my last two posts. Any of you happen to see this? Take a look at the trailer.
Faith, like those rays we're told, is the substance) of things not seen- (Heb. 11:1 - (just like those photons) together- still make up the electromagnetic spectrum. You may not see it but it's there. This movie was dramatic.. but illustrates how we can often find ourselves tied up in any given situation..(it doesn't even have to be as dramatic). I mean hey, it isn't like we always ask for it either.. but let's face it, there may be no pat answers..none, zip- as far as having a quick fix. Unlike that movie, here is a an example..just a fraction of what I went through this past month.
For a very good reason, we're told to walk in Faith. I also tend to think it has a lot to do with relying..my thoughts anyway-

Light & Color Pt. 2- Colorful Chameleons

Ok, this is my visual offering (from parallels to light) for the second half of (Light & Color 1)
and seeing it's apparent how I like to photograph these guys on occasion (cough), maybe the following will help explain why..maybe? (I noticed you can double click to enlarge-large it?

Known for their ability to change color, Chameleon's can be seen wearing a variety of colors,  including brown, green, blue, yellow, red, black or white. Communication is an important reason behind these color changes. With color, chameleons can communicate with others, expressing attitudes such as their willingness to mate. Contrary to popular belief, chameleons cannot display limitless colors and do not change colors in a camouflage response to their surroundings. Instead, their skin changes in response to temperature, light, and mood.

A chameleon’s colorful beauty is truly skin deep. Under the transparent outer skin are two cell layers that contain red and yellow pigments, or chromatophores. Below the chromatophores are cell layers that reflect blue and white light. Even deeper down is a layer of brown melanin (which gives human skin its various shades)..could you tell this photo below was just an excuse to add the Iris? So blow it up-

Levels of external light and heat, and internal chemical reactions cause these cells to expand or contract. A calm chameleon, for example, may exhibit green, because the somewhat contracted yellow cells allow blue-reflected light to pass through. An angry chameleon may exhibit yellow, because the yellow cells have fully expanded, thus blocking off all blue-reflected light from below.

Just for effect-
I've posted some of these below..but not everyone's seeeen these-
Other lizards, like the green anole, can also change color..although not so dramatic-
Thanks and Cheers-

Light & Color, Pt. 1

This is the second half of (Parallels To Light)

I just read Light and Color -(from the Franklin Institute) and wanted to pass along a little of (what you may already know)...but may still find intriguing none-the-less.

distance between is called the wavelength. The sun emits white light (made of colors recognized by its own wavelengths), while our eyes interpret the colors. Yet, the human eye can only respond to certain colors and wavelengths.
It goes on to say how we have light and color sensitive receptors - (rods receptive to light and cones sensitive to color)- bringing the same sensation as smell. This is perceived in our brain by a 3 color code (red, blue & green). I've also learned not everyone sees the same colors or exact shade either, as many are simply deficient- lacking red or green photo pigments.

So as light travels in the form of waves, they also exist above and below the visible spectrum, too. Such waves called radio, microwave, and infrared are below the red end of the spectrum, and ultraviolet (UV), x-rays, and gamma rays are above the violet.
These cannot be seen by the human eye, and therefore constitute the "invisible" spectrum. Together, the visible and invisible spectrums make up the electromagnetic spectrum. (I'm getting back to this in the next post)

All of us have the potential to see light and colors "in a different light," so to say—even if we aren't color blind.. Of rainbows -"When you look at one, you are seeing the light bounced off of certain raindrops, but when the person standing next to you looks at the same rainbow, they may see the light reflecting off other raindrops from a completely different angle. In addition, everyone sees colors differently according to light and how their eyes interpret it." I hope that means when I take a snapshot, you'll be able to see what I see..providing you don't have too big a deficiently?

Furthermore, colors are known to effect us as far as vision, appetite and mood, so my suggestion is to just paint your kitchen blue that way it will suppress your appetite ha.. because as they say -there is no blue food except for the blueberry meaning no automatic appetite response?
Some might need to do their bedroom that color to avoid midnight snacks..hmm? Also, green is the most soothing while yellow can be over stimulating. Remember, some prisons are painted pink? I just read this and the colors I chose for this text are making me dizzy! What about you? Heh heh

I'm Captive

Who isn't or doesn't feel that way from time to time in one degree or another? (don't read into anything, ha)

"As I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God..and the hand of the Lord was there upon me."
(Ezek 1: 1, 3.)

No calamity can be to us an unmixed evil if we carry it in direct and fervent prayer to God, for even as one in taking shelter from the rain beneath a tree may find on its branches fruit which he looked not for, so we in fleeing for refuge beneath the shadow of God's wing, will always find more in God than we had seen or known before. Fabulous Ferns

Now, I don't want to
Think about my place
Pushing back branches
That graze my face..
I just want an escape

Well it's dark in here
&
Pretty cool
Still, sunbeams filter down
Through the tops
Of the leaves
Between fine rainy
Trickles

With twigs in my hair
&
Ferns, that graze my face..
I just want an escape-

Puna Reflections

This is pretty much what you'll often find in regard to life.. as far as the age of the various lava flows through out the Island. Below, the flow is much older so consequently you'll find a greater amount of soil, with more trees and lush grass..but rocks, you can't escape it!
Here are a few black & white and focal, but I've included the regular photos so you can at least see the green. Incidentally, this was much dryer than the last time I'd seen it. These are really way up in the mountains (between Mauna Kea & Mauna Loa)-Saddle Rd. But hey, Puna is where I stay..& that's how we say it too.

Secret to the

Some of you may recall the horse header and sunset below I'd posted (here for Skywatch-)
