The Factory or the Tile Guys?

For those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving.. I hope you had a Blessed day! I did some entertaining and I'm a little behind..(so I will be over to visit your bloggy soon as I can)- thanks!

I happen to strike up a conversation with two women in the natural food store while looking at Henna dyes. One  of them was an acquaintance (a tall German woman in her mid 50's) Anyway, I happened to catch the look on her face -preserved almost as well as some of my expressions.. as if I was holding a hostess Twinkie in my hand? I said "no, you don't wanna do that do you"!? She grinned..pushing back her dark blond dread locks which just about touched her hips.
(Here)  they'll set the record straight for you about all the stereotypical information you've probably heard out there about not washing dread locks and stuff like "clean hair dreads faster than dirty hair".

Well, the other woman I'd just met- maybe about the same age.. attractive, single- yet struggling with various addictions, who was presently sobering up for rehab.. in addition to finding a place to stay! According to her, she wasn't abused enough to stay at the women's shelter? Well, that got me to thinking about the impact color has on ones mood. You may of heard of pink prisons for criminals..well I wondered about substance abuse- like how color can enhance or reduce the sensational effects of food? (this was really an excuse to throw the last part in)
Now about that tile-
When our house was being built, I chose some bathroom tiles with every other piece of (5x 7 diamond shape), being either beige, pearly lavender to deep mauve as well as some warm tones..almost orange- that highlighted our fancy lavender blue bathtub! (no jets..my husband is a mechanic..did most of the plumbing too, so he visualized having to rip the wall out to repair something?
Well, when the tile guys were finishing ..it was only then I'd noticed most of the pieces they assembled were on the orange to the dark mauve side (leave it to the men)? But to make matters worse, I made an irritating discovery too! Something about the colors looked off from what I originally picked out?! When I went back to talk to the sales rep -she said that the change had something to do with the factory over a period of time? Huh?? See, back when I was matching shades..(trying to choose what would go with an accent piece) was when I noticed the tiles surrounding her desk, and said that's it! Anyway..a factory thing? Well..best I could do was tone down the paint to make certain colors stand out more..like those soft lavender and pearly tones? Nobody else noticed any problem..but it still wasn't ..it isn't what I saw?

"Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment."
- Claude Monet
(Orange Bougainvillea & Jacaranda)

I haven't heard anything about pink prisons. But the store knew they were selling you different colors than you picked out?? That is wrong and they should have done something about it, but then again you would have had to make a big fuss. Yes, color affects a lot, that is why rastaraunts are red or orange a lot, like McDonalds. It stimulates our appetite.I don't think I've ever seen a blue restaraunt! We would fall asleep while eating.

Any gifted painter can not draw such subtle shades of flowers blooming in your garden.
You have a fantastic ginger cat as like bougainvillea ♪ (ノ =・ェ・)ノ⌒ ∧__∧

The bee stand out so well against the soft lavender color of Jacaranda.

Are you the bee?

if they put me in a pink prision I would go nuts. i do not like pink, not light or bright or any shade of pink. Mauve i like so that is a little pink. Cranberry i love, red, but not pink. i did see that in the news. to bad on the tile since that is the hardest thing to change out. god certainly picked the right colors for your flower portraits.

Colors are SO important to mood and general feelings. I'm wondering if changes have been noticed in pink prisons. (will have to check that out). So sorry for the bad luck with the bathroom tile colors. Things like that bother the one who has the vision but hardly ever annoys anyone else.

As for the Cochineal beetle there is a whole chapter devoted to it in the book Colors by Victoria Finlay that I think I've mentioned here before. Amazing how people can make color and a whole industry out of squeezing juice out of bugs and flowers like saffron crocuses.
