The House Of Tomorrow

(My son, Mauna Rd. Big Island early 90's)

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you
You may give them your love but not your thoughts
For they have their own thoughts
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams~

You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth..
Khalil Gibran~

Fast foreword- same camping area..
standing by the gate not far from the road above

What a wonderful pair of pictures!!! And that is my favorite Gibran from The Prophet. What are those amazing flowers in your header? They look like little umbrellas!

Wonderful photos and I think the poetry is simply stunning. That is such a wonderful way to look at the future generations. Wise words here!

our children become adults so fast, time flees from us and their they are, grown ups. the orange flower in your header, i have only seen once. selby gardens has a few of these, but only once did they have these gorgeous orange flowers. love the header shot. my babies are 44 and 46 and that is downright scary since they were just born a few months ago. ha ha

The Khalil Gibran quote is so perfectly done. I've read it many times but it is good to see it again and be reminded of its eloquence and wisdom. Fun to see the builders of the houses of tomorrow even though we will never visit them.

Disasters set us back, but still we go on and learn and help each other.

It is sad to know but this is a fact about our children.

But we still enjoy all the moments.
