One Kind Of Splender

Za za, Are We Really Just Specimens?

(Verses below if you care to read)..

Stace Owens has no intention of leaving this world when he dies. He plans to stick around for decades or longer, preserved in plastic and displayed in a museum or medical school.
The 33-year-old real estate agent from Dallas is among more than 7,000 people (7,652 to be exact) who have agreed to donate their bodies for plastination. Von Hagens' donation program began in 1983 and so far 461 have already died. More than 22 million people in 35 cities have visited the exhibit since it debuted in Japan in 1995.

It's a process (you may of seen a post I did here) in which body fluids are replaced by liquid plastic. The plastic hardens, leaving tissues intact and allowing bodies to be displayed in their natural color and without formaldehyde.
The process was made popular by Gunther von Hagens’ “Body Worlds,” a controversial anatomy exhibit that puts real human specimens on show. Most are flayed and dissected, revealing their organs. Others are kept intact and displayed in dramatic action poses, such as a basketball player driving to the hoop or a runner in full stride.

“Therefore, they have to experience an aesthetic shock.
"Therefore, they have to open their hearts to themselves.
"Therefore, they have to fall in love with the specimen", and then it will keep in their minds" (lol)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though the institute can’t guarantee how or where the body will be displayed?
Some become full-body specimens, a process that takes up to a year to complete at a cost of between $40,000 and $60,000..hmm??
1 Co 15: 35-
"But someone may ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?..  What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed,..But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body..There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor".
Interestingly the Body Worlds & the Brain exhibit is here in Vancouver until January 2011. I missed a Body Worlds show when it was here a few years ago. I'm not sure how often it comes to town but if I can remember that it is here when I get back from my trip I will try to check it out!
I know Ginny..I'm not terribly squeamsh on the one hand, but this frog landed in the freezer only cause I don't like squishing them? After that- it's a piece of cake (providing it's no bigger(lol)
I would actually enjoy seeing something like the Body Worlds Penny..the science behind it is intriguing..and I guess understanding how Gunther's mind ticks?
Now that is just WEIRD. I'm more with those who believe in recycling. People should be allowed to return to the earth from whence they came. What if everyone did that. Sheeeeesh!!! Just another way to take advantage fools and take their money.
Glad those aren't mug shots of your pets. ;-D
(Ha ha) well, aside from the money..I mean that's a lot! but what happens to all the mediocre specimens? Do they start getting tossed in a basement some place?
Okay now, how did the frog get her nails done and her lips glossed and her eyes sparkling? lol
Penny, you caught that- it was convenient but I was trying to imagine "falling in love with the specimen" and how Gabor would achieve her goal? Thanks-
Rainfields..it's got to be man's idea of preservation?
I really enjoyed this exhibit when it came to Denver. Any body--human or animal (and, after all, we are just another kind of animal) is fascinating and oh, so complex. The complexity is really apparent in these displays. Very cool! I, however, would prefer to be cremated rather than plastinated. :)
Ann..thank you for your kind uplifting words! (hugs)
Katina..it's a bit inside out (ha)
Your welcome Amin..thanks for letting me know-
Wow Lisa..so you were able to see this! I agree..we are complex and I too would prefer to be cremated. Thanks for stopping by-
We are expecting more rain for the next few months. Some of the states in my countries are cautioned about potential floods for those times.
A rain-filled country.
What a waste of money, it seems like a total ego trip. I like the Tibetan custom of letting the birds consume the dead. It seems appropriate that we should return something to the Earth from which we consumed so much.
So you'd prefer your corpse be pecked do you (lol) I wonder if people might hold a strange fascination for the body parts that remain hidden all their lives? Only a thought..compost is fine..Hey, thanks for the read-
