The River

I went down deep
In the river
Like a flood-
It ran through my house
And carried me out

Was waiting in the school yard
Before I'd heard the bell
Genuflected
Or learned about hell

I'd been dunked in liberalism
To the sign of the cross
Looking for faith
I had to take heed
As small fingers touched
Each blue crystal bead

They were equals-
And they baptized me
In religion
I went down deep
Where the waters blurred those masks

But I saw another river
Flowing from the dawn-
In a baptism of fire
I let it carry me along

So if you gaze into the stream
Yet only find debris-
Yes-
In the land of the free
And the home of the brave-

Remember-
There is a river- Ps. 46:4

Where faith
Is the substance..
Of things not seen- Heb. 11:1
That's where the recovery will be found-
Acts 17:26 "He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth--
having ordained times before appointed, and the bounds of their dwellings--"

How we learn about God and how we find faith--both are struggles of sorts.

Regina, this was some experience you had! Very dramatic in poetry.
I learned a new word as well, 'genuflected.' Now if it will just become a part of my vocabulary.

This is beautiful and so true. You cannot tell anyone why you have faith. One must be open and searching to make the leap to God. Lovely.

Ya Sandy..it's like labor- ha
Jim..there's been drama and you could say this process revealed the true meaning of the word religious...and I'm pretty sure they're twins!
My dad said he did that in a theater once (genuflected)!
Hey thanks Patti for your comment-
B.D. I appreciate your words..and ya, leap is very fitting too.

Dear Regina Marie--
This is beautiful--from one who has drunk from both of the rivers you are drawing the picture of, I admire your honesty and courage.

Many thanks--and great blessings of that river which knows no limits--

Maybe they could delete the prior W.W. Posts??

Tried to leave a comment awhile back but I don't think it took. This was a nice piece fueled by experience. Thanks for the insight..

the image of the multiple streams or rivers that can carry us to different destinations is a very powerful one.

gina, I can relate to a lot in this poem... I found these words beautiful as they spoke to me:

"Was waiting in the school yard
Before I'd heard the bell
Genuflected
Or learned about hell

I'd been dunked in liberalism
To the sign of the cross
Looking for faith
I had to take heed
As small fingers touched
Each blue crystal bead

They were equals-
And they baptized me
In religion
I went down deep
Where the waters blurred those masks"

How did you do the bird sounds recording I am very interested to know that.
Regards Eaton. :)

sorry, I probably didn't ask that question about the bird sounds...how did you put it onto your blog? I would like to record a poem of mine and put it on my blog. Is that possible?? But I don't want to do a video clip! Eaton. :)

Oh Eaton..so glad you liked that! Some of this is deep and I guess writing is a great outlet huh.. which I'm sure you know too. It's constructive anyway, in that it takes the confusion that was generated and all the splintered pieces in your brain...and puts it all in order.
The birds..I went on youtube cause I was trying to figure out something mellow or not too distracting then back to the playlist...I'm sending you a link (via e-mail) I just found for the audio-
Anyway, I'd like to hear back from you -and thanks again for your comments Eaton- (much appreciated)-

Wow! I loved this! The history is so rich and then I linked up to this poem! Well, I laughed as I remembered the first time I ever heard the word genuflect myself. I was in a Catholic wedding and was told I must do this when reaching the front. When I asked the priest,"what's a genuflect?" He fell out laughing.
Thanks again for all the beautiful imagery!

Let's be perfectly clear- the war on free speech is spiritual!
