Feeling Green On Holloween

Autumn in the archives~

Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all. ~Stanley Horowitz

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot

Youth is like spring, an over praised season more remarkable for biting winds than genial breezes. Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits. ~Samuel Butler

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end"
:

"There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot..

The Psalmist says, "I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of living" (Ps. 27:13)

I
Caught them lizards
When
I
Was small
Raised some pigs
When I got tall
But you might say
I'd gone too far
Well then I raised these boys
So they could hear me call!

I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals. ~Winston Churchill

Ever consider what pets must think of us? I mean, here we come back from a grocery store with the most amazing haul - chicken, pork, half a cow. They must think we're the greatest hunters on earth! ~Anne Tyler, The Accidental Tourist

Boosting Those Endorphins

I don't smoke..can't drink really-(always leave a tiny window open), due to my compromised immune system, though I may have a glass of wine on special occasions. Having said that, I saw a video clip of a surfer who got his arm bitten off by a shark last night..well I had been thinking about my love of chocolate (really) and also happen to be reflecting on the young man from "I-ran" who is sadly awaiting the amputation of his hand plus additional sentencing for uh, stealing chocolate!!  It would be different if you knew that shark might be hanging around..so I figure it must be worse to wait for a most certain fate?

On Chocolate~ Chocolate is a psychoactive food. It is made from the seeds of the tropical cacao tree, Theobroma cacao. The Greek term theobroma means literally "food of the gods". Chocolate has also been called the food of the devil (snicker snicker); but the theological basis of this claim is obscure. But it seems to affect the brain by causing the release of certain endorphins.
This is a picture of my sister's cacao tree..she does the whole process- from the raw fruit, through fermentation, drying, etc. to chocolate or cacoa.

OK, I was reading a passage from the Gospel of Mk.3:1-15 (when Jesus healed a man with a withered hand). Honestly, I was trying to imagine what was going through that man's head..he must of realized as Jesus did- those religious leaders (like our modern day FDA- lurking around (in an olive grove no doubt) - plotting how they were going to snare Him on some trumped up charges!

Like it or not, most of the stuff we ingest are made up of some kind of chemicals.
Now I just found out women's bras contain formaldehyde!! Known as the burning bra for it's chemical finish (giving it that fresh stiff look). Yikes!! What if it were only in push-ups? What if they ((boosted)) your endorphins too?

Look, if they can invent Latisse -a drug the FDA has now approved to grow eyelashes according to Allergan, the company that makes Latisse  (don't you love those names)? I'm getting off track...

Well, you can take your nitrates in bright red wieners or sulfides in lovely plum wine.. either way, we should be good with it..yet watch out, someone else might get their nose out of joint! So, I just wind-up looking for how God uses it all-good and the bad?
This is my final word.. Ga. 5 may list beautiful things to think about..yet it still speaks volumes on the freedom of how to live in Christ so we don't have to then worry about the law~ as He is the fulfillment of it.
Now I want you to throw your 2 cents in..

Sevens, Tuesday Afternoon Musings

(Taken in 1917)
My dad's uncle pictured with his seven son's- one died shortly after birth, so there would of been eight. Still, there were six girls! Now, my dad had seven sisters and was the oldest of ten. I am the youngest of seven and my husband now is the oldest of seven.
:
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven stages
Shakespeare-
:
What about your family..any interesting order besides seven?

There are so many references to seven, especially in the Bible..(over 700 times as a matter of fact) promises, angels-(appearances),  trees, sons, candelsticks, and generations.. which I've always felt were intriguing.

In the creative works of God, seven completes the colors of the spectrum and rainbow, and satisfies in music the notes of the scale. In each of these the eighth is only a repetition of the first. (a great number of spiritual perfection)
Any thoughts?
The Hebrew, seven is (shevah). It is from the root (savah), to be full or satisfied, have enough of. Hence the meaning of the word "seven" is dominated by this root, for on the seventh day God rested from the work of Creation.
The word ‘Sabbath’, however, does not mean ‘seventh’; it means ‘rest’. Seven sees a completeness; eight means that God begins again upon something that has been completed. His new beginning is out from something finished—God proceeds from completion. That is Christianity: it rests upon something finished, and that something finished is God’s rest, God’s satisfaction. He begins everything from that point.

The Gecko & The Mouse

Is this really just a curse to him?
(Husband captured him in his shop)

Immortal Plastination

"..in order to make a specimen permanent, decomposition must be halted"

Immortal Plastination..a new band perhaps? No, it's the intention of Zsa Zsa Gabor's current husband - Prince Frederic von Anhalt!
Her health's been failing and she's facing her final days at 93yrs..so her hubby is calling on
German anatomist Gunther von Hagens to immortalize the ailing actress' body after she dies! The German businessman says, "My wife has always dreamed that her beauty would be immortal. His dream is to show her plastinated body "in the context of a scene" in one of her films."

Maybe it's about money?  At that age..though he's a bit younger,  you'd think those two would have something better on their minds?

Decomposition is a natural process triggered initially by cell enzymes released after death and later completed when the body is colonized by putrefaction bacteria and other microorganisms. By removing water and fats from the tissue and replacing these with polymers, the Plastination process deprives bacteria of what they need to survive. Bodily fluids cannot, however, be replaced directly with polymers, because the two are chemically incompatible. Gunther von Hagens found a way around this problem (more here)

The crucifixion is certainly all about immortality, but in Lk. 17:33, it says "Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it " (Mk 8:35 is -lose it for my sake and the gospel)..interesting, just before that Christ made a comparison to Lots wife who looked back ..sort of immortalizing her as well? Ge 19:26. Salt's know for that, but I'm sure the chemical make up of sulfur adds a new dimension? What do you think?
Salt is also significant because the sacrifice He made is equated with salt- Mt. 5:13-14 ~making the sacrifice good, and the virtue or righteousness of Christ, which in turn makes us good?

I pulled this charming photo out of my draft.. I had to put my last post in there too because I just deleted photo bucket (which made my camping photos disappear). I locked it for privacy but noticed anyone could still scroll through it? Maybe I missed something? Anyway..no header yet either (sniff)

Happy Campers, Pt. 2

Mauna Road in the 90's~
This old ranch land twists through bumps - lava below and pukas- (holes) buried beneath thick dense grass and powdery clay dirt. As I've said before, it's enough to trip a mountain goat (and we have plenty of them). You need A.C. too ..we used to come back with dirt in our pores from our bikes or jeep (see bottom).

Wild Passion -pink blossoms..the fruit is edible but lacks the tartness and sweetness of the regular (lilikoi- former post) used for jam

The road is dotted with gnarled Koa trees - taking on strange and often ominous shapes- arms draped in thick green moss, as they wave through moody clouds- One of my brothers used to make some nice tables out of this wood-
(click twice in photo bucket to enlarge these)

Youngest son with a bag of apples sometime around 92 or 93?

(Except for the recent one of the gorse above- where you can see how dry)..
the rest of the series were taken back in the early 90's.
I didn't rescue all of my negatives but I was able to make copies and burned a lot to a CD.

Anyway, round-up corrals and pieces of machinary peer out of the ground from by gone days.. through what used to be beautiful thick clover grass which covered the hills - manicured by cattle. This has been crowded out with gorse (above) which has sadly taken over about 35,000 acres
so far..

But We're All Strange!

Driving out to dinner awhile back, a potential family member made a remark that a couple of my family members were strange..I sort of knew where she was coming from, but leaned back and said- we're all strange" with a snicker. I honestly do think the whole human race is odd!

I recently found a few old photos from an on-line genealogy site- (on my dad's side) which family members have submitted. I couldn't help smiling....as in Ahh, oh my gosh..now I see, kind of thing! This actually reminded me of the movie "Brother Where Art Thou" ..mostly because of all the behavior and quirks...you would have to relate to something I'm sure.

Below was of a wedding (bride in the middle)..but look at the get-up!
They're sitting on a patch of grass too (lol).
(zoom in)

This link will take you to a commemorative I did (Yesterday's Fall). You'll see an old photo of my dad's Aunt Bee- who I fondly remember. She had a pretty good sense of humor and treated us nice too.

Anyway, Happy Campers pt. 2  coming up soon...
Let's be perfectly clear- the war on free speech is spiritual!
